Of the more than 100,000 people in the sex trade in the Dominican Republic, an estimated 60 percent were forced into it as children.
Transform1 is a nonprofit built to end child sex trafficking. They work in the Dominican Republic, searching for children trapped in trafficking and bringing them to freedom, at times alongside local law enforcement.
They do not stop at the rescue. Transform1 stays with a child through recovery and reintegration for as long as it takes, and they reach into vulnerable neighbourhoods long before a trafficker ever gets there.
The work
Each one covers a different point in a child's story, from long before the danger arrives to long after the rescue.
Food and shelter for families in impoverished neighbourhoods, building the long relationships that reveal which children are most at risk.
Searching for children trapped in trafficking and removing them from harm. Every rescue looks different, and every one is somebody's whole life.
Working directly with children in classrooms and community settings so they can recognise the risks and protect themselves and their friends.
Holistic aftercare for children who have been rescued, walking with them while they heal and find their way back into their communities.
Where it goes
Transform1 is raising toward property for a church, a feeding center, and a safe house. Your gift also goes to work right away.
Why we are asking
We make everything to order, one piece at a time, for one woman at a time. The whole brand runs on the idea that a single person is worth the extra effort.
Transform1 works the same way. One child, for as long as it takes. When we found them, it did not feel like a choice.
To be clear about it: this is not a fundraiser for AIVVIA. Nothing on this page is for sale. Every donation is collected by the race organisers and goes to Transform1, and we receive none of it.
